Help And Info When Choosing A Walk-In Clinic

A Closer Look at Walk-In Clinics

Most areas have several different walk-in clinics that you may need to visit from time to time. If you are sick and it is too short notice to get in with your regular physician, you may need to visit a walk in clinic in order to get the treatment that you need quickly to get over the illness fast. These clinics usually do not accept appointments, and patients are strictly seen in the order in which they arrive. Most of these clinics will accept your insurance, but you need to talk with them about the forms of payment that they accept and the insurance that they accept before you are seen. This is because they do not usually let you just bill the services, and payments are usually due at the time the services are rendered.

Choosing a Great Walk-In Clinic

You will likely have several options when it comes to walk in clinics in your area. You will want to take a look at them and choose the one that is most convenient. Some people choose the one that is located closest to them, while others may choose the ones that are known for having the best physicians. Chances are that you will not see the same physician each time you visit, because they usually rotate out their physicians. You can find walk in clinics that are open after hours and on weekends and holidays. This is convenient because you never know when you may get sick and need medical attention. It is definitely a better option than visiting a crowded emergency room for something that is really not an emergency situation.

What Can Be Treated at a Walk In Clinic

There are many different illnesses and issues that can be treated by visiting a walk in clinic. Most of the time people that go to these clinics have just your common cold or flu symptoms. You may even choose to go there if you have a sprain or a fracture, as they can usually get you the x-rays that you need to determine which type of treatment is necessary. If you have injuries from a work related or vehicle related accident, you may choose a walk in clinic as well. Just make sure that you tell them up front that it is related to an accident so that they can bill it accordingly.

The Disadvantages of a Walk-In Clinic

You may want to be aware of the disadvantages of a walk-in clinic before you decide that it is a better option than your primary care physician. If your physician can see you, it is probably better that you go ahead and make an appointment there. This is because when you go to a walk in clinic you are never sure of how long you will have to wait to be seen by the doctor. Many people will be in the waiting room, and it could be hours before you are actually able to get back to a room.
